The TP/GOPers War on Women.

WHY THE GOPers HATE WOMEN

Are our women next?

Misogyny runs rampant through the policies of the TP/GOPers, one only needs to look through the latest attempts to quash women’s rights and repress them into their  ”proper places”. Just glancing at the news brings a plethora of states, each legislating new restrictions on pro-choice  for women. Soon Roe v. Wade will be a distant memory, as more and more women wind up at back-alley abortionists; insuring more female deaths or horrific effects on their health for the rest of their lives.

The climate in America is getting worse and worse, and I’m not talking about Global Warming. What’s happening to this country since the GOPers took over is frightening. Women’s rights, civil rights even labors rights are falling by the wayside bit by bit. Isn’t that how dictatorships start?

Where did “small Government” go? AND BY THE WAY MR. BOEHNER, WHERE ARE ALL THOSE JOBS? We’re turning into exactly what our founding fathers fought so hard to change in the War for Independence. We’re becoming no better than the principles we were fighting against. Women’s rights as full citizens are being  denied as are anyone else who isn’t  one of the favored wealthy few. The rest are all peons, serfs and pawns in the greedy grasp of the power hungry oligarchy.

Their blatant disdain for the middle class and poor are just beginning. Women are the first ones  because they’re the easiest target. How better to control them than by restricting their rights to autonomy of their own bodies since there’s no way to be a little pregnant? The idea that any misogynist, probably with a mistress, has the right to any moral high ground over a woman’s rights to self determination, is unconscionable.

Many states are formulating Draconian laws to restrict greatly, if not outright prevent any woman from having any abortion for any reason, no matter what. Rape, incest, endangering the life of the mother, it doesn’t matter. She’ll be forced to carry to term, even if she dies. Birth control will eventually be outlawed, possibly even condoms.  Though, I’ll bet Viagra et al will be over the counter drugs by then.

Upate: since I wrote this a couple of states are now trying to outlaw birth control pills. I was just speculating. Who would dream someone is actually trying to do this?

What’s even worse, this vendetta against all women is supposedly inspired by religion. Yet there isn’t even one instance of “abortion” word or deed mentioned in either the OT or NT. It’s all fabricated by the zealots and fanatics who want to turn this country into a theocracy with Christian Sharia law.

A recent article from the excellent atheism.about.com:

Explaining the Republican War on Women

By Austin Cline, About.com Guide  April 21, 2011

Many have wondered at the fact that Republicans want to criminalize abortion but at the same time they want to eliminate funding for all the programs that help poor mothers and children. Why would they deny women the ability to control how many children they have then also deny them the help they need to raise the children they have, never mind the extra children they would have if abortion and contraception are banned?

These positions seem like they are contradictory, or at least very inconsistent, but they aren’t. In fact they both stem from a set of basic and consistent religious principles that have long been at the heart of conservative, Republican politics. It all comes down to their desire to control women and keep them dependent.

The conservative analysis—if you can call it that—that ties the prevention of unwanted child-bearing together with the use of public assistance to feed born children is that they blame feminism for both these things, which they consider evil.

The argument is rooted in the idea that it’s god’s/nature’s will that women should be dependent on men, but as women are functionally feeble-minded children, they rebel against their god-given roles (and that rebellion is feminism), and so they often have to be brought into line with force. Having children makes women see how they need to be submissive to men, because it escalates their dependence. So getting them bearing children as soon as possible is critical, even if by force.

The view is that government assistance was created through a collusion of feminists and the federal government to allow women to have children but escape their natural role as dependent on men.

This argument is often expanded to attack men living in poverty, to impugn their manhood by saying they refuse to grow up and provide for their families. That we have 10% unemployment has not budged the Republican argument that all impoverishment is due to laziness and rebellion against god-given gender roles.

So women need to have more children and they need to be prevented from having any sort of control over when they get pregnant or how often they get pregnant. At the same time, they must be denied any assistance (public assistance, as opposed to faith-based assistance from churches where aid can be tied to accepting traditional Christian ideas about women’s social roles) in raising those kids, educating those kids, or keeping those kids healthy. This is their idea to force women to abandon their rebellion against God and men.

Once they abandon their feminist rebellion, they will recognize their true place at the feet of the men in their lives. Once they take and learn their place in society, men will also learn their place and then all of society will be healthy again. The economy will be right again, politics will be right again, and all will be good with the world. In this way, practically everything that’s wrong with the world is attributed one way or another to women failing to adhere to the traditional social roles that Christianity demands. In effect, women and feminism are to blame for everything and thus putting them in their place is the solution to everything.

I happened to run across this on another site (atheist oasis.wordpress.com) I thought it was singularly appropriate here:

MY BODY, MY RULES.
YOUR GOD IS NOT MY GOD.
THE STATE OF MY GENITALIA IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
MOTHERS ARE PRO-CHOICE TOO.
FORCED PREGNANCY IS SLAVERY.
TRUST WOMEN.
PRO-WOMAN MEANS ALL WOMEN, NOT JUST THE ONES WHO THINK OR LOOK LIKE YOU.
I AM NOT YOUR INCUBATOR.
I AM NOT YOUR SLAVE.
THE SHAPE OF MY GENITALS DOES NOT AFFECT THE WORTH OF MY SOUL.
THE VALIDITY OF MY WOMANHOOD IS NOT YOURS TO DETERMINE.
THE LIFE OF A FETUS IS NOT MORE VALUABLE THAN THE LIFE OF A WOMAN.
THE STATUS OF MY SOUL IS NOT YOURS TO DETERMINE.
MY GOD IS PRO-CHOICE.
FAMILY PLANNING MAKES HEALTHIER FAMILIES.
THERE IS NO ONE TRUE WAY.
FORCED STERILIZATION IS ASSAULT.
THE STATE OF MY UTERUS IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS.
MY PURPOSE IN LIFE IS NOT DETERMINED BY MY GENDER.
CHRISTIANS ARE PRO-CHOICE TOO.
MORALITY IS NOT ABSOLUTE.
INDEPENDENT LIFE BEGINS AT BIRTH; ALL ELSE IS RELIGIOUS MASTURBATION.
FREEDOM OF RELIGION MEANS ALL RELIGIONS.
CONTROL THE CONTENTS OF YOUR OWN UTERUS.
YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO MY BODY.
IF POTENTIAL FOR LIFE EQUALED LIFE, EVERY WET DREAM WOULD BE GENOCIDE.
THE VALIDITY OF MY RELATIONSHIPS IS NOT YOURS TO DETERMINE.
YOUR GOD HAS NO AUTHORITY HERE.
IF EVERYONE THINKS THEY ARE RIGHT, AND EVERYONE DISAGREES, THEN EVERYONE IS WRONG.
YOUR DISCOMFORT WITH MY LIFE IS NOT MY PROBLEM.
MY ROLE IN LIFE IS NOT YOURS TO DETERMINE.
I AM NOT YOUR VESSEL.
STOP PUTTING WORDS INTO YOUR GOD’S MOUTH.
YOU DON’T GET TO DECIDE IF I DESERVE A CHILD.
THE SHAPE OF MY BODY DOES NOT DETERMINE THE POWER OF MY MIND.
YOU DO NOT HAVE JURISDICTION OVER MY BODY.
YOUR DISCOMFORT IS NOT WORTH MY LIFE.

SINCE THIS IS A POST ON THE “WAR AGAINST WOMEN”, HERE’S A POST FROM AG/ATH MAVEN AUSTIN CLINE:

States Charging Women with Murder over Miscarriages

By Austin Cline, About.com Guide   July 6, 2011

Conservative Christians are pursuing their war on women with increasing vigor: in more than one state, women are being prosecuted for murder when they have miscarriages. This is the logical conclusion of the anti-choice ideology: if a fetus is a person and abortion is murder, then every miscarriage must be treated as a suspicious death.

So if the woman did anything that might have contributed to the miscarriage, then they will be treated like someone who contributed to the death of an adult — and that means charges ranging from manslaughter to homicide. No other path is available to those who push anti-choice ideology.

Rennie Gibbs is accused of murder, but the crime she is alleged to have committed does not sound like an ordinary killing. Yet she faces life in prison in Mississippi over the death of her unborn child.

Gibbs became pregnant aged 15, but lost the baby in December 2006 in a stillbirth when she was 36 weeks into the pregnancy. When prosecutors discovered that she had a cocaine habit – though there is no evidence that drug abuse had anything to do with the baby’s death – they charged her with the “depraved-heart murder” of her child, which carries a mandatory life sentence. …

In Alabama at least 40 cases have been brought under the state’s “chemical endangerment” law. Introduced in 2006, the statute was designed to protect children whose parents were cooking methamphetamine in the home and thus putting their children at risk from inhaling the fumes.

Amanda Kimbrough is one of the women who have been ensnared as a result of the law being applied in a wholly different way. During her pregnancy her foetus was diagnosed with possible Down’s syndrome and doctors suggested she consider a termination, which Kimbrough declined as she is not in favour of abortion.

The baby was delivered by caesarean section prematurely in April 2008 and died 19 minutes after birth. Six months later Kimbrough was arrested at home and charged with “chemical endangerment” of her unborn child on the grounds that she had taken drugs during the pregnancy – a claim she has denied.

As one lawyer argued before a court in such a case, if an intentional abortion is legal and protected, how can an unintentional abortion be illegal and criminal? All the arguments from the state against the women in these cases are effectively arguments against the legality of abortion. The arguments against the right and ability of women to choose what to do with their bodies.

“Women are being stripped of their constitutional personhood and subjected to truly cruel laws,” said Lynn Paltrow of the campaign National Advocates for Pregnant Women (NAPW). “It’s turning pregnant women into a different class of person and removing them of their rights.”

Actually, the goal is to turn women generally into a different class of person and to remove quite a few of their rights. America’s Christian Right simply does not regard women as fully equal human beings who deserve all the same rights, privileges, and liberties as men.

At every stage of the development of women’s rights and equality in the West, conservative Christians were at the forefront of the opposition and they justified that opposition on the Bible, Christian doctrine, and Christian tradition. They ultimately lost the basic argument that women shouldn’t be equal, but they haven’t stopped trying to turn back the clock.

Update: The latest wrinkle the TP?GOPers are spearheading is  an investigation into Planned Parenthood, to see if any funding they get could OSTENSIBLY BE USED FOR ABORTIONS. In other words even though there’s a law on the books that government funding may not be used to fund abortions, they want to make sure (what idiots).  In other words they’ll stop at nothing to try to defund PP altogether, no matter what.

Update:  As of 10/14/11,  the TP/GOPers passed a bill that would allow any hospital that was pro-life to deny a woman emergency treatment in the ER if it could result in an abortion, under any circumstances, if there was an objection to the principle of abortion 0n religious grounds. Yes, it’s actually true! A WOMAN COULD DIE FROM LACK OF TREATMENT UNDER THAT LAW!

AND SO IT CONTINUES…
